A quiet home
for thoughtful music.
Lost Tape Society is an independent music collective dedicated to preserving thoughtful music and the stories behind it
We believe that creativity deserves time, care and honest craftmanship. In a world that often rewards speed and constant attention, we choose a slower approach - one that values meaningful work, genuine collaboration and music that stays with you long after it has finished playing.
Lost Tape Society is home to artists, listeners, illustrators, photographers and creative people who share a love for honest expression.
Whether you're here to discover new music or simply spent a quiet moment, welcome to the society.

Manifesto
A quiet tribute to what was forgotten.
We are the Lost Tape Society.
A home for thoughtful music and the people who believe it deserves to be crafted, shared and experienced with care.
A place where musicians, listeners and creative collaborators can grow together, support one another, and preserve the kind of music that doesn't ask for attention—but stays with you long after it has ended.Every song begins as a lost tape.
Some are forgotten.
Some are rediscovered years later.
Some simply find the person who needed to hear them.We believe creativity has value, even when only a handful of people experience it.
We believe the process of creating is just as meaningful as the finished work. Some music changes the world.
Some music changes a single person.
Both matter. We protect the quiet moments where curiosity grows.
The freedom to create without chasing approval.
The courage to keep creating, even when no one is watching.
We choose kindness over ego.
Honest feedback over empty praise.
Patience over urgency. We take our time.
We share what we learn.
We celebrate craftsmanship.
We know imperfections are not mistakes, but traces of the hands that created the work.
Every recording carries the fingerprints of the person who made it.
That is something worth preserving. We share ideas without competition.
We collaborate because we enjoy creating together.
We believe music becomes richer when knowledge is shared generously and friendships grow naturally. If Lost Tape Society succeeds, it won't be remembered because it was the biggest.
It will be remembered because it helped meaningful music find the people who needed it.
Because it introduced lifelong friends, collaborators and listeners.
Because it reminded people that quiet creativity still has a place in the world. If these words feel familiar,
perhaps you've already found your place.Welcome to the Society.

Archive Notes
Tokyo Nights was written after a long walk through Ueno Park on a warm spring afternoon. Although the city was full of people, there was a quietness to it that stayed with me. This recording isn't an attempt to recreate Tokyo, but to preserve the feeling of wandering through it without a destination. It captures the warmth of the afternoon sun against the lingering chill of early spring. Beneath the cherry blossoms in full bloom, even one of the world's busiest cities felt unexpectedly calm—a place where nature and the rhythm of everyday life quietly existed side by side.

Recording the Quiet
August 2026
When people think about recording music, they often think about microphones, instruments and software. But I've come to realise that what I'm really trying to record isn't sound. It's a feeling. As I wandered through the garden, my footsteps softened by the gravel paths and the wooden bridges, I found myself hearing something I'd almost forgottenSilenceThe air was cold, yet the spring sun was warm enough to make me stop.Somewhere beyond the trees, birdsong replaced the sound of traffic.
The pond answered only with gentle ripples as koi drifted beneath fallen cherry blossoms.Around me, people sat beneath the blossoms without rushing anywhere. Nobody seemed interested in capturing the moment. They were simply there.I wanted to take that moment home with me, knowing it would already be changing before I left.
But we can never truly record a moment while we're living it.Maybe every song begins with a moment you don't want to lose.
Maybe that's what every recording really is.Not an attempt to preserve sound. An attempt to preserve a feeling.

The Things We Leave In
October 2026
I waited for the path to clear.
Just as I lifted my camera, two people walked through the gate.
I sighed.Looking back at the photo later, I realised they hadn't ruined it.
They had given it a story. There was something familiar about seeing two people disappear into the afternoon light.
I couldn't place it at first. Then I remembered a photograph of my grandmother and me.Taken years ago.
Just before sunset, slightly overcast, with her hand resting on mine as we walked along a pier.
I hadn't thought about that moment in a long time.Somehow, this imperfect photograph found it for me.Not because it was perfect.
But because it reminded me that life rarely is.I spend so much time trying to remove what doesn't belong.
Waiting for people to leave the frame.
Editing out distractions.Whether I'm holding a camera or sitting behind a pair of studio monitors, I'm often chasing the same thing.Cleaner recordings.
Tighter performances.
Flawless takes. But somewhere along the way, are we also removing the things that make a song feel human? The recordings I come back to most aren't flawless. They're the ones where you can hear someone breathe before they sing.
Where fingers slide across the strings.
Where the room still exists around the music.Maybe those weren't imperfections after all.Maybe they were the story.

Surfersimpson
Instrumental music inspired by memory, nature and quiet places.
Artist Notes
Surfersimpson creates instrumental music that explores memory, quiet places and the emotions that often go unnoticed.Inspired by travels through Japan, late-night walks, changing seasons and the warmth of analogue recordings, each composition is an attempt to preserve a feeling before it quietly disappears.Rather than chasing perfection, the focus lies on honest performances, subtle textures and melodies that leave room for the listener's memories.
